Emuzines

I’ve got to admit, I’m surprised that Nik’s got me beat 3:1 in amount of posts, as I usually grab onto new fun things a tad obsessively.  I am really excited about this new space, and will love it even moreso after we move and are updating everyone about our new home, how JoJo does without a backyard, working through a Ph.D. program, living near cows, etc., etc.  Hopefully we’ll also be able to post a lot of pictures of our new place and the area, which is really a very cute, quiant little town very close to the pretty darn cool downtown Sacramento.  I want to thank Nik for all of the great work he’s done on this site and, especially, for surprising me with a Scrapbook section (check it out, it’s fun)!

We leave in 6 days and I have been pretty productive in getting ready.  I’ve packed a lot and have arranged PG&E, furniture delivery, etc.  Nik and I are very different in that I want it all done BEFORE we get there, while he wants to do it WHEN we get there.  I’m not sure if we compromised or if he gave in, but I feel very satisfied in how we arranged it all.  Many things are done…but once we get up there, there will still be just enough to do to keep us busy but not overly stressed out.  I’m excited to get our new place set up, so that we can cuddle with supersoft blankets on the (not yet found) couch and watch (found) Sex and the City, make fondue in our new fondue pot (thanks to Melissa and Jason), take Jo to the dog park, sleep on fancy and soft sheets, and…oh yeah…start working on that Ph.D…

My Nikon 50mm AF f1.4D lens should be arriving via UPS anytime now.  I’ve gotten into more serious hobby photography ever since I purchased my Nikon D80 DSLR.  Its my hope to be able to take pictures in low light situations without the need of a flash.  Lots of places prohibit flashes and even when they dont it can be a nuisance to others.  My need for this type of lens cam about at a friends recent birthday party.  It was at night with everyone gathered around a fire pit in the backyard.  Without using flash, eliminating the natural fire light ambience or a tripod, which I didnt have with me, I was unable to capture the scene as I had wanted.   With this lens I dont think there would have been any problems in getting great pictures lit only by the flickering flames of the fire.

Im pretty picky about having certain things exactly as I want.  In this case its the look and feel of our new blog.  As it stands right now it is as default as they come and well…boring.  Over the next few weeks, possibly longer I’ll be poring over everything I can to find plugins, themes, and tweaks to make this site everything i’ve imagined it to be. But more importantly im hoping Katie and I can keep all our friends and family interested enough to visit here regularly to find a window into our lives while we are away.

Nik taught me tonight that “blog” is short for “web log.”  I’m excited because this “web logging” seems like a fun way to keep track of what is going on in this point of our lives, to share it with our friends and family, and to look back upon these times later.  We’re in a transition period right now, getting ready to move up to Davis in about a week.  We’ll have a lot to report in the next few months!  Glad to share it with you.

I was never happy with the domain names I had tried to come up with myself until Katie started me on the musings idea.  After some serious brainstorming we came up with www.Emuzines.com.  We felt the double pun was perfect for our Web Blog.  I made the purchase and got to work setting the site up using Joomla.  I hit a design snag along with an overall laziness that left it in an unused state.  Then the other day I noticed the Word Press Application for the Iphone and tonight here it is.  My first post with many more to come…
