Recruitment Party Recap

Posted by in Katie's Blog on Feb 14, 2011

This past Friday night, Nik and I hosted the recruitment party. This is a party for those who have been invited to my graduate program. I didn’t actually go to my own student-hosted recruitment party when I was deciding on a graduate school, but I have been told that the camaraderie exhibited in such parties has been influencial to others in making their decision about where to attend school. Peer support is so important in graduate school that I can definitely understand the sway that this sort of party might have. So when April, who is on the recruitment committee, asked if we’d be willing to host, I was excited to do so.

Well…we had a BLAST. Have I said before that I never think our parties can get more enjoyable? Well, again we’ve been topped. Wow, it was fun. I think most attendees were out for the count for the remainder of the weekend. Below is some photographic evidence of the fun. These were taken with Nik’s fisheye lens, so they’re a little…wobbly…on purpose.

First, a group shot of inside (we had the firepit going outside, and it was a gorgeous evening, but we don’t have any pictures of that). In this shot, you can see our new table and bar, too!:

Next, an action shot of Andrew, April, and David:

Next, what every party needs…April brushing my hair with a pasta rake!:

And one more group shot:

April and David ended up staying the night, and we made some corndogs from scratch around midnight. Hopefully we didn’t scare away any recruits…but I think the fun just goes to show how well we getting along and what a supportive environment we have here.

I’m just now reading this post! Wow, what an awesome party. I think I’m still recovering… a week later!
