Hulu: Taking It All The Way

Posted by Nikolas On February - 19 - 2009

I just made a quick account on the site, yes it is free, although I dont watch a lot of TV this idea is a pretty good one.  There is quite a bit of content including some older stuff.  You may not be able to get full seasons yet but its perfect for watching recent episodes you may have missed or forgotten to TiVo.  Excellent for when on the road and dont have access to a TV but maybe you have a laptop and a WiFi connection.  Video quality is excellent and there are even some HD videos with more to come.

Im Still Here

Posted by Nikolas On February - 10 - 2009

Yes its me and I’m still around.  I’ve been failing at posting here but Katie is keeping everyone informed.  As you can see the site is transitioning to something a bit more fancy.  Im still working on the new Title and Logo as this current one is just a placeholder.  Also there are a few little things im working out as well and once done should create a much more interesting site to visit.

Bachelor Camping Weekend

Posted by Nikolas On October - 7 - 2008

As I noted earlier all of my buddies got together and went camping for the weekend to celebrate the final days as a bachelor for our good friend Mike.  Dave, Lao, Bret, and I showed up early thursday evening and held down the camp awaiting the arrival of others on friday.  In total we had eleven friends hanging out around the fire and enjoying a great time outdoors together. camptarr.jpg   I dont believe any of us had been camping in a long time.  Some of our tents and equipment should be viewed in a museum.  We had three generatations of coleman grills and lanterns.  We overplanned for the most part in regards to food and cooking needs.  Future camping trips, which I expect many more of, we will establish a better plan and should go a lot smoother.

Our first night was quite an interesting one.  Lao and Dave were solo in their own tents while Bret and I shared my mansion.  I had made the suggestion to put all open food inside the vehicles which I did but Dave failed to follow.  Earlier we had a racoon come and steal a loaf of bred right out of the camp.  Then later that evening while sleeping Dave was awakened by the sound of crunchy crackers.  The racoons had ripped a hole into his tent and chose to eat his cheeze-its right there inside his tent.  At that moment we got up and moved all food and ice chests into my car.  Apparently the racoons saw us because later that night I woke up to find eight in our camp with four of them crawling over my Volvo as if they knew thats where the food went.  It was a very intersting night but quickly we learned from our experience and remedied it for future evenings.

The remainder of our group rolled in early friday evening and 2 more appeared friday afternoon.  A few of use did some decent hiking and an exploratory hike along the coast as the sun set.  I hope that Mike enjoyed our little get together in the wilderness to celebrate the end of his Bachelorhood.

Enjoy the photos…

Lions, Tigers, and the Interweb Oh My!

Posted by Nikolas On September - 30 - 2008

Internet is finally up and running for us  Comcast wasnt much help other than being sure to charge us $75 for a monkey to screw is a few cables, plug things in, and turn it on.  I could have done that myself for free.  Ive got lots of cable orgazization to do.  Im always picky about them being bundled and neat.  The neighbors were lucky enough in my laziness to recieve free wireless temporarily until this morning when I secured it.  Im considering being nice and just leaving it open in spite of comcast.  In any case if anyone asked me to use it I probably would allow them.  We also have TV now which I never really watch but without a couch does it matter anyway?  Couches are still backed up and we are unsure when we will be receiving them.  Telephone is 100% go as well with unlimited long distance and local calls I think.  It connects through then cable modem and the internet so im guessing its VoIP and is a flat rate for any type of calls.

The dog is still spoiled and now that I think about it she might have snuck on the bed to sleep.  Katie doesnt allow her on the bed anymore and JoJo is so sad about it.  Lets get picture evidence of how happy she is.

“‘Mommy Im so tireds, Puhlease can i sleep on your pillow while you are at work and school?’”

She is now sadly sleeping in her own bed in the office.  Gonna have to do some hair removal to hide the evidence so JoJo and I dont get in trouble.  She is still having her ear infection problems but the vet up here is taking it very serious and thinks the original one has never been completely eliminated.  JoJo is getting her treatment with follow up visits until the infection is gone.  Hopefully this will be the last of it, unless she goes swimming!

Its Bachelor party this weekend.  There are eleven of us going camping and I expect it to be a great time.  I havent been camping in years.  Last time must have been when I was a Boyscout.  More on that upon my return sunday.

Back In Town

Posted by Nikolas On September - 8 - 2008

Katie and I just got back into L.A. tonight.  Without internet up there im terribly bored and since comcast wont be coming out till the end of September the boredom might last another two weeks.  The majority of our move is complete and we now return home to tie up lose ends and pick up the dog.  All the furniture is purchased and we are only waiting on its delivery which may not be until the end of October for the couch.  Had I known they would take so long id have made that purchase much further in advance.  We are leaving again on Saturday morning for our final trip.  Further posts if I do any will be made from my iPhone and later edited since i cant type a damn on this thing.  Once the we are up and running with Internet on our computers expect many more posts to flood in.

After the Walk

Posted by Nikolas On September - 1 - 2008

jojo0001_1.jpg Katie suggested we take JoJo on a walk today and for whatever unknown reason, I’m usually against the idea and resist with all my efforts.  Today I lost the battle and gave in knowing that I will have to get into the habit anyway with our new move to Davis, CA.  As usual, JoJo’s excitement is overwhelming at just the sight of her harness and leash.  It takes some effort and we finally get her ready to go.  She tugs quite a bit at first but after some restraint and about half the block, she settles into a more manageable pace.  She does make the oddball attempt at stepping in front of me and this usually ends with me stepping on one of her four little feet.  She picks up that it’s a bad idea really quickly.  We also had brought along her new portable water bowl and bottle to see if she would drink out of it…she failed.  I’m a bit concerned with having to drive her up with us.  I plan to make frequent potty breaks and hopefully she gets thirsty enough to drink.  This picture was taken after her walk and she is clearly exhausted laying next to Katie.  I must admit her behavior does improve after even the shortest of walks.

My New Toy

Posted by Nikolas On August - 29 - 2008

nikkor-f14d.jpg My Nikon 50mm AF f1.4D lens should be arriving via UPS anytime now.  I’ve gotten into more serious hobby photography ever since I purchased my Nikon D80 DSLR.  Its my hope to be able to take pictures in low light situations without the need of a flash.  Lots of places prohibit flashes and even when they dont it can be a nuisance to others.  My need for this type of lens cam about at a friends recent birthday party.  It was at night with everyone gathered around a fire pit in the backyard.  Without using flash, eliminating the natural fire light ambience or a tripod, which I didnt have with me, I was unable to capture the scene as I had wanted.   With this lens I dont think there would have been any problems in getting great pictures lit only by the flickering flames of the fire.

Keeping to the Blog

Posted by Nikolas On August - 27 - 2008

Im pretty picky about having certain things exactly as I want.  In this case its the look and feel of our new blog.  As it stands right now it is as default as they come and well…boring.  Over the next few weeks, possibly longer I’ll be poring over everything I can to find plugins, themes, and tweaks to make this site everything i’ve imagined it to be. But more importantly im hoping Katie and I can keep all our friends and family interested enough to visit here regularly to find a window into our lives while we are away.

Finally!

Posted by Nikolas On August - 26 - 2008

I was never happy with the domain names I had tried to come up with myself until Katie started me on the musings idea.  After some serious brainstorming we came up with www.Emuzines.com.  We felt the double pun was perfect for our Web Blog.  I made the purchase and got to work setting the site up using Joomla.  I hit a design snag along with an overall laziness that left it in an unused state.  Then the other day I noticed the Word Press Application for the Iphone and tonight here it is.  My first post with many more to come…
