His and Her Electronic Musings

About Us

Welcome to emuzines! This site is designed and used by Nik and Katie. We love that we have a way to keep everybody aware of what is going on in our lives, as we recently moved to Northern California from Los Angeles. Especially when we get wrapped up in work and studying, this is a great quick way to update everybody at once! As a couple, our together time usually consists of a lot of laughter, enjoyment, and licks on the face (from JoJo). Please scroll to the right to learn a little bit more about each of us.

Katie

Katie is the appreciative frequent user of emuzines. Academics are a big part of her life, and she is currently working toward her second graduate degree. She is passionate about autism, and is working at the M.I.N.D. Institute in Sacramento, conducting autism research. Katie loves the little things in life, such as the smells of parking garages, water on concrete, and the fog on Pirates of the Carribean. She loves dogs, travelling, exploring, eating out, scrapbooking, new pajamas, the beach, hugs, burning candles, chocolate, rain, Disneyland, and visiting and hosting friends and family!

Nik

Nik is the mastermind behind emuzines (although the title was a team effort). Although he doesn’t blog as much as Katie, he enjoys tinkering around with the website and playing host to Katie-as-client. Nik loves pizza, Coke, and all things computer. He dislikes crowds, Pepsi, and scary food. Nik can make anybody laugh, and is a blast to be around. He works as a computer technician and a JoJo walker. He is very generous and has a great heart!

JoJo

My name is JoJo, and I’m the furry friend Mommy and Daddy are always talking about. Some things I love are new toys, visits from my mommy’s mommy, opening Mandi’s suitcase, cookies, barrelling across the back of the furniture, sleeping in Mommy’s boat, playing fetch, loving Logan, and when Mommy says “1, 2, 3, GO!” I love to lick my Daddy over and over and over (Mom doesn’t let me). Some things I don’t like are when Mommy leaves me to take a shower, the neighbor pug, when Daddy wears his hat, and baths. I love family time and playing with my Mommy and Daddy. I will make your heart melt! I’m so cute!

Small Talk, Then a Break

Posted by Katie On March - 5 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Tonight was the faculty-student recruitment dinner for incoming recruits to my program.  I am not too into the social things, the small talk…but my friends would be there and I decided to go with David.  We had a pretty good time, a little awkward, and I was way overdressed…but I’m still glad I went.  Tomorrow is the student only recruitment “dinner” (aka party)…but I have to work very far away, pretty late…so I may not make it.  Fridays always wipe me... more

Short Breather

Posted by Katie On March - 3 - 20091 COMMENT

I have finished my monster of a paper, and prepared for both of my presentations.  So this morning is a short breather before I go off to class and Presentation #1.  I’ve got one more, much shorter, paper to write.  And then…not technically done…but pretty much! Jo and I just went out in the pouring rain.  We jogged and she did it all tip-toey.  Better go get ready.  Oh, good residence news may be coming soon…  Read More →

A Two Doses of Caffeine Kind of Week

Posted by Katie On February - 26 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Not too much time to post tonight.  This preview picture is a little outdated–but this is what I’ve been up to.  The end of Winter quarter is nearing, and presentations and papers are all coming at me.  I had a great presentation yesterday, and got a large chunk of one of my papers done last night and today.  But it’s been busy…my days have definitely required two doses of caffeine.  Read More →

Another Perfect Weekend in Paradise

Posted by Katie On February - 23 - 20091 COMMENT

I spent last weekend in L.A.  Technically Logan-sitting, I fit a ton of fun in with some of my favorite people.  Unfortunately, Mandi and my mom were in Amesbury, so I didn’t get to see them…but I had an activity-filled weekend, anyway. I got in very late Friday night, after a horrible Super Shuttle experience which kept me driving around LAX for an hour after midnight.  On Saturday, I got my nails done (I only try to fit in the very important things), and then had some relaxation... more

Hulu: Taking It All The Way

I just made a quick account on the site, yes it is free, although I dont watch a lot of TV this idea is a pretty good one.  There is quite a bit of content including some older stuff.  You may not be able to get full seasons yet but its perfect for watching recent episodes you may have missed or forgotten to TiVo.  Excellent for when on the road and dont have access to a TV but maybe you have a laptop and a WiFi connection.  Video quality is excellent and there are even some HD videos... more

Thank Goodness for Friends and Dessert

Posted by Katie On February - 17 - 20092 COMMENTS

I have been so exhausted for about a week!  I thought that I was “crashing” from my stressful midterm that I studied for for many, many, many hours.  It was immediately after that that I became a zombie!  I was nearly useless for a whole week.  Making myself get off of my butt helped a bit, but still I felt exhausted. Then, I went to Ciocolat with my friend, Maciel.  This is a chocolate/pastry/brunch/coffee/tea shop in downtown Davis.  Since I was sick a few weeks ago and missed... more
