His and Her Electronic Musings

About Us

Welcome to emuzines! This site is designed and used by Nik and Katie. We love that we have a way to keep everybody aware of what is going on in our lives, as we recently moved to Northern California from Los Angeles. Especially when we get wrapped up in work and studying, this is a great quick way to update everybody at once! As a couple, our together time usually consists of a lot of laughter, enjoyment, and licks on the face (from JoJo). Please scroll to the right to learn a little bit more about each of us.

Katie

Katie is the appreciative frequent user of emuzines. Academics are a big part of her life, and she is currently working toward her second graduate degree. She is passionate about autism, and is working at the M.I.N.D. Institute in Sacramento, conducting autism research. Katie loves the little things in life, such as the smells of parking garages, water on concrete, and the fog on Pirates of the Carribean. She loves dogs, travelling, exploring, eating out, scrapbooking, new pajamas, the beach, hugs, burning candles, chocolate, rain, Disneyland, and visiting and hosting friends and family!

Nik

Nik is the mastermind behind emuzines (although the title was a team effort). Although he doesn’t blog as much as Katie, he enjoys tinkering around with the website and playing host to Katie-as-client. Nik loves pizza, Coke, and all things computer. He dislikes crowds, Pepsi, and scary food. Nik can make anybody laugh, and is a blast to be around. He works as a computer technician and a JoJo walker. He is very generous and has a great heart!

JoJo

My name is JoJo, and I’m the furry friend Mommy and Daddy are always talking about. Some things I love are new toys, visits from my mommy’s mommy, opening Mandi’s suitcase, cookies, barrelling across the back of the furniture, sleeping in Mommy’s boat, playing fetch, loving Logan, and when Mommy says “1, 2, 3, GO!” I love to lick my Daddy over and over and over (Mom doesn’t let me). Some things I don’t like are when Mommy leaves me to take a shower, the neighbor pug, when Daddy wears his hat, and baths. I love family time and playing with my Mommy and Daddy. I will make your heart melt! I’m so cute!

Dog Park Mud and Fun

Posted by Katie On February - 12 - 20091 COMMENT

Today I finished a major portion of  my chapter (and got a big fat A on my genetics midterm), so I felt like a celebration was in order.  That, and Nik said “dog park” in front of JoJo, so we took her to the dog park.  It’s been raining here for days, so it was muddy and very fun. Jo had a wonderful time.  She likes to run alongside the dogs who chase balls, but she will not touch their toys.  Once in awhile she’ll get there first, but she just sniffs it and steps aside. ... more

Im Still Here

Yes its me and I’m still around.  I’ve been failing at posting here but Katie is keeping everyone informed.  As you can see the site is transitioning to something a bit more fancy.  Im still working on the new Title and Logo as this current one is just a placeholder.  Also there are a few little things im working out as well and once done should create a much more interesting site to visit.  Read More →

It’s the Little Things

Today Nik bought cake ingredients at the grocery store.  We baked a cake, and I got to use my new Valentine’s Day spatula from my mom, covered in hearts, to make it…then I got to lick!! It’s the little things that make me happy.  Read More →

Excitement

Posted by Katie On February - 6 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Hi!  Lately, I have been more buried than usual in work and school stuff.  I have a genetics midterm on Monday, which I decided to devote all weekend to getting ready for, so I’ve had to do a lot of work for my other class ahead of time, to clear out the weekend (for fun and excitement, like MAOA, tetO, housekeeping genes, and stuff like that).  Well, this was designed as a post to talk about exciting things, and that was quite sarcastic (although I admit I really do enjoy the genetics of... more

OH!

Oh yeah!  Happy birthday to JoJo, who turned 2 yesterday.  She enjoyed new toys, a gigantic new bone, an entire cake, and party hats and favors, thanks to her mommy’s mommy.  Here are excerpts from our celebration (are we weird?):  Read More →

Relaxed Monday

Posted by Katie On January - 26 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

The dishwasher and dryer are humming, and I’m trying to decide between watching some TV or starting a new book…I’m sure I’ll go for the book.  This quarter has been such a nice change, with time in the evenings and nights to myself, time for Nik and I to hang out, and free weekends to house shop.  We had a Day of Fun scheduled for last Saturday, but I couldn’t come up with something good to do, that would be rain-acceptable.  It was supposed to rain through today. ... more

House Shopping, Day 1

Posted by Katie On January - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Today Nik and I went house shopping!  We were both so excited and also a little nervous, I think.  We have a great Realtor who showed us 5 or 6 houses around Davis.  We fell in love with the first house we saw, which is a 5 bedroom home pretty close to where we live now.  We didn’t like any of the rest (except one that I thought was the cutest thing ever, but the “master bedroom” wouldn’t even fit our bed).  One house was SO bad, SO WEIRD…just the strangest thing... more

Weird (But Not Complaining!)

Posted by Katie On January - 6 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

It’s Tuesday, and I’ve made breakfast, and am now leisurely sipping my coffee and relaxing.  “Surely tomorrow must be a day from hell,” I thought…but no!  Tomorrow all I have to do is go to class from 2-4!  I am LOVING this new schedule, yet I can’t really figure out what’s so different.  I’m in class the same number of hours, and I’m working the same number of hours.  It’s just the scheduling of the days, seems immeaureably better. ... more

Work High

Posted by Katie On January - 5 - 20091 COMMENT

I was a tad depressed and nervous today for school and work to start up again–I told my officemate Carolyn that I felt like a 2nd grader on her first day of school.  I had a meeting scheduled with Sally today to discuss the work I did for our chapter over break, and to talk about how we’re going to use part of it in our next grant proposal.  She was THRILLED with the work I got done, saying over and over how much it was and how good it was!  I found out, also that she wrote me into... more
