His and Her Electronic Musings

About Us

Welcome to emuzines! This site is designed and used by Nik and Katie. We love that we have a way to keep everybody aware of what is going on in our lives, as we recently moved to Northern California from Los Angeles. Especially when we get wrapped up in work and studying, this is a great quick way to update everybody at once! As a couple, our together time usually consists of a lot of laughter, enjoyment, and licks on the face (from JoJo). Please scroll to the right to learn a little bit more about each of us.

Katie

Katie is the appreciative frequent user of emuzines. Academics are a big part of her life, and she is currently working toward her second graduate degree. She is passionate about autism, and is working at the M.I.N.D. Institute in Sacramento, conducting autism research. Katie loves the little things in life, such as the smells of parking garages, water on concrete, and the fog on Pirates of the Carribean. She loves dogs, travelling, exploring, eating out, scrapbooking, new pajamas, the beach, hugs, burning candles, chocolate, rain, Disneyland, and visiting and hosting friends and family!

Nik

Nik is the mastermind behind emuzines (although the title was a team effort). Although he doesn’t blog as much as Katie, he enjoys tinkering around with the website and playing host to Katie-as-client. Nik loves pizza, Coke, and all things computer. He dislikes crowds, Pepsi, and scary food. Nik can make anybody laugh, and is a blast to be around. He works as a computer technician and a JoJo walker. He is very generous and has a great heart!

JoJo

My name is JoJo, and I’m the furry friend Mommy and Daddy are always talking about. Some things I love are new toys, visits from my mommy’s mommy, opening Mandi’s suitcase, cookies, barrelling across the back of the furniture, sleeping in Mommy’s boat, playing fetch, loving Logan, and when Mommy says “1, 2, 3, GO!” I love to lick my Daddy over and over and over (Mom doesn’t let me). Some things I don’t like are when Mommy leaves me to take a shower, the neighbor pug, when Daddy wears his hat, and baths. I love family time and playing with my Mommy and Daddy. I will make your heart melt! I’m so cute!

Bulleted Update–Fun, Fun, Fun!

Posted by Katie On December - 30 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Similar to my List of Happenings post, here is a bulleted list of happenings.  I don’t feel like I can put into words the great fun and relaxation I have had during this winter break home, so here are some thoughts and happenings. Scrapbook catch-up!  Or, rather, scrapbook work-on, since I have completed a few pages, but made so many more memories since I’ve been here, that I’m sure I’ll go home needing to do more than I did.  But hopefully I’ll have completed all... more

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig

I’m in LA!  Yay!  It was a difficult and slightly painful drive down.   I took the 80 to the 680 to the 101, because of the snow problem on the 5.  I had never driven the 101 all the way down, and I actually really enjoyed it.  It was really pretty, a very neat drive.  I thought it was funny that the scenery completely reminded me of Disney’s California Adventure, rather than the other way around.  With the trees hugging the highway, the tin agricultural buildings with “Asparagus”... more

Whine, Whine, Whine

Posted by Katie On December - 12 - 20081 COMMENT

I’m a big huge baby when I’m sick.  Since Nik’s at work…there’s nobody else to whine to!  You know what’s equal parts pathetic and cute?  Poor little JoJo is sick too.  We’ve cuddled all morning, and she won’t eat, and she looks so sad!  At least we’re in it together.  Can dogs catch people sicknesses?  Read More →

Ouch

The household has taken turns being sick.  Despite my very best, very thorough, efforts, I must have caught it from Nik.  Or maybe from work, since people there are sick now, too.  Anyway, I’ve been working from home–still getting a lot done, but in huge pain.  I haven’t been able to enjoy my Christmas break, really, since I fall into a heap of pain after working all day. On a happier note, Nik ordered me a very, very exciting Christmas present.  Here’s my new friend:... more

I have completely underestimated the coldness up here!  And I have since learned…IT’S COLD…but I continue to underestimate it every day!  Brrr!  Read More →

I <3 Winter Break

Posted by Katie On December - 6 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Today is my first official day of winter break!  Ok…maybe yesterday was my first OFFICIAL day, but I worked all day…so today is really it! We sure celebrated on Thursday after our last day of classes.  Here we are at Bistro 33. We had a pretty good, but uneventful, last two classes (April and I gave a great puberty-related presentation, and David was a champion wrapping up Piaget in an exact hour)…and then headed out to Bistro 33.  We had some mojito pitchers and sweet... more

List of Happenings

Posted by Katie On December - 4 - 20081 COMMENT

I tend to refrain from updating until I have huge stretches of time in which to do a post justice…and that doesn’t happen.  So here is a list of recent happenings.  Time may soon permit me to expand on some of these… 1.  Nik and I had a wonderful, relaxing, food-consuming, amazing, beautiful, great-company time in Amesbury.  Nik is working on a post about it, but Happening #3 got in the way. 2.  It took us 3 days to fly home.  Our plane almost crashed.  It was traumatizing. ... more

Spiders!

Posted by Katie On November - 16 - 20082 COMMENTS

Nik and I have realized in the past week, that neither my mom or Mike D. live with us…so…who is going to kill the spiders that are apparently quite rampant in Davis??? I’ve refused on the two and only occurrences in the past few days.  Nik stepped up.  Anxiety all around.  Read More →

Update

Posted by Katie On November - 11 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Hi All! I have been trying to write a Mandi’s Visit post for quite awhile, but for some reason the picture uploading on the site is messed up, and we haven’t been able to fix it yet.  So, instead of posting pictures directly with a story for them all, like I wanted, I’ll post a link to my Facebook album, where you can see the pictures from Mandi’s visit: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2008978&l=2ec38&id=1262058331  We had a great time.  On Friday, which was... more
