His and Her Electronic Musings

About Us

Welcome to emuzines! This site is designed and used by Nik and Katie. We love that we have a way to keep everybody aware of what is going on in our lives, as we recently moved to Northern California from Los Angeles. Especially when we get wrapped up in work and studying, this is a great quick way to update everybody at once! As a couple, our together time usually consists of a lot of laughter, enjoyment, and licks on the face (from JoJo). Please scroll to the right to learn a little bit more about each of us.

Katie

Katie is the appreciative frequent user of emuzines. Academics are a big part of her life, and she is currently working toward her second graduate degree. She is passionate about autism, and is working at the M.I.N.D. Institute in Sacramento, conducting autism research. Katie loves the little things in life, such as the smells of parking garages, water on concrete, and the fog on Pirates of the Carribean. She loves dogs, travelling, exploring, eating out, scrapbooking, new pajamas, the beach, hugs, burning candles, chocolate, rain, Disneyland, and visiting and hosting friends and family!

Nik

Nik is the mastermind behind emuzines (although the title was a team effort). Although he doesn’t blog as much as Katie, he enjoys tinkering around with the website and playing host to Katie-as-client. Nik loves pizza, Coke, and all things computer. He dislikes crowds, Pepsi, and scary food. Nik can make anybody laugh, and is a blast to be around. He works as a computer technician and a JoJo walker. He is very generous and has a great heart!

JoJo

My name is JoJo, and I’m the furry friend Mommy and Daddy are always talking about. Some things I love are new toys, visits from my mommy’s mommy, opening Mandi’s suitcase, cookies, barrelling across the back of the furniture, sleeping in Mommy’s boat, playing fetch, loving Logan, and when Mommy says “1, 2, 3, GO!” I love to lick my Daddy over and over and over (Mom doesn’t let me). Some things I don’t like are when Mommy leaves me to take a shower, the neighbor pug, when Daddy wears his hat, and baths. I love family time and playing with my Mommy and Daddy. I will make your heart melt! I’m so cute!

Embarking

Melissa wrote me a letter (thank you!).  In it, she noted that I handle stress and change serenely, and that if she was doing what I am doing right now, she’d have written lots of “oh my gosh I’m so stressed out” blogs.  I thought, huh, maybe I’m not honest enough in my blogs.  I do, as explained earlier, try to actively ignore the negativities of my move.  But I have had moments of sheer terror (ok, fear…intense fear), I walked into Nik’s room last week,... more

This Week…

Posted by Katie On September - 2 - 20081 COMMENT

…is a big one!  We’re moving on Thursday.  I have been slowly getting ready (physically and emotionally, I guess) for awhile, so I’m pretty prepared.  Although…I have to admit I’m still half in denial, and half excited.  I think I listed random things that I’m excited about in another post…it’s the little things that get me happy.  I am also pretty hopeful about fall being a pretty season up there, and Nik said that he’d instruct JoJo to... more

After the Walk

Posted by Nikolas On September - 1 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Katie suggested we take JoJo on a walk today and for whatever unknown reason, I’m usually against the idea and resist with all my efforts.  Today I lost the battle and gave in knowing that I will have to get into the habit anyway with our new move to Davis, CA.  As usual, JoJo’s excitement is overwhelming at just the sight of her harness and leash.  It takes some effort and we finally get her ready to go.  She tugs quite a bit at first but after some restraint and about half... more

My Turn

Posted by Katie On August - 29 - 20083 COMMENTS

I’ve got to admit, I’m surprised that Nik’s got me beat 3:1 in amount of posts, as I usually grab onto new fun things a tad obsessively.  I am really excited about this new space, and will love it even moreso after we move and are updating everyone about our new home, how JoJo does without a backyard, working through a Ph.D. program, living near cows, etc., etc.  Hopefully we’ll also be able to post a lot of pictures of our new place and the area, which is really a very... more

My New Toy

Posted by Nikolas On August - 29 - 20081 COMMENT

My Nikon 50mm AF f1.4D lens should be arriving via UPS anytime now.  I’ve gotten into more serious hobby photography ever since I purchased my Nikon D80 DSLR.  Its my hope to be able to take pictures in low light situations without the need of a flash.  Lots of places prohibit flashes and even when they dont it can be a nuisance to others.  My need for this type of lens cam about at a friends recent birthday party.  It was at night with everyone gathered around a fire pit in the backyard. ... more

Keeping to the Blog

Posted by Nikolas On August - 27 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Im pretty picky about having certain things exactly as I want.  In this case its the look and feel of our new blog.  As it stands right now it is as default as they come and well…boring.  Over the next few weeks, possibly longer I’ll be poring over everything I can to find plugins, themes, and tweaks to make this site everything i’ve imagined it to be. But more importantly im hoping Katie and I can keep all our friends and family interested enough to visit here regularly... more

Beginning…

Posted by Katie On August - 27 - 20083 COMMENTS

Nik taught me tonight that “blog” is short for “web log.”  I’m excited because this “web logging” seems like a fun way to keep track of what is going on in this point of our lives, to share it with our friends and family, and to look back upon these times later.  We’re in a transition period right now, getting ready to move up to Davis in about a week.  We’ll have a lot to report in the next few months!  Glad to share it with you.  Read More →

Finally!

I was never happy with the domain names I had tried to come up with myself until Katie started me on the musings idea.  After some serious brainstorming we came up with www.Emuzines.com.  We felt the double pun was perfect for our Web Blog.  I made the purchase and got to work setting the site up using Joomla.  I hit a design snag along with an overall laziness that left it in an unused state.  Then the other day I noticed the Word Press Application for the Iphone and tonight here it is. ... more
