As I noted earlier all of my buddies got together and went camping for the weekend to celebrate the final days as a bachelor for our good friend Mike. Dave, Lao, Bret, and I showed up early thursday evening and held down the camp awaiting the arrival of others on friday. In total we had eleven friends hanging out around the fire and enjoying a great time outdoors together.
I dont believe any of us had been camping in a long time. Some of our tents and equipment should be viewed in a museum. We had three generatations of coleman grills and lanterns. We overplanned for the most part in regards to food and cooking needs. Future camping trips, which I expect many more of, we will establish a better plan and should go a lot smoother.
Our first night was quite an interesting one. Lao and Dave were solo in their own tents while Bret and I shared my mansion. I had made the suggestion to put all open food inside the vehicles which I did but Dave failed to follow. Earlier we had a racoon come and steal a loaf of bred right out of the camp. Then later that evening while sleeping Dave was awakened by the sound of crunchy crackers. The racoons had ripped a hole into his tent and chose to eat his cheeze-its right there inside his tent. At that moment we got up and moved all food and ice chests into my car. Apparently the racoons saw us because later that night I woke up to find eight in our camp with four of them crawling over my Volvo as if they knew thats where the food went. It was a very intersting night but quickly we learned from our experience and remedied it for future evenings.
The remainder of our group rolled in early friday evening and 2 more appeared friday afternoon. A few of use did some decent hiking and an exploratory hike along the coast as the sun set. I hope that Mike enjoyed our little get together in the wilderness to celebrate the end of his Bachelorhood.
